BARB

Barb is working on her fourth career. She worked for many years at the University of Waterloo in the Distance Education program before deciding to follow her dreams and become a riding instructor. Following a stint at a training stable in the north of England, she returned to Canada and studied Equine Technology at an agricultural college in Northern Ontario. There she earned an Honors diploma in agriculture as well as two Level 1 instructor's certificates for both English and Western riding from the Canadian Equestrian Federation.

A move to Vancouver Island led to teaching riding at a small private school in Duncan, BC. She also started volunteering with the riding for the disabled program at Providence Farm which led to teaching for the Victoria Riding for the Disabled Association.

Moving again, this time to Calgary, she returned to office work and needed to find an exercise program close to home. She had been doing Pilates at Pilates North for over 3 years when job circumstances changed and she found herself looking at a career change once again. With the encouragement and support of the Pilates North team, Barb decided to take her STOTT PILATES training. Her desire is to merge her love of riding with her knowledge and love of Pilates. Barb is now certified in Mat and Reformer Level 1 & 2 and is currently developing a core program specific to Equestrian riders and teaching it to those who wish to become more balanced and better able to work in harmony with their horses. She is currently enhancing these skills herself (through private dressage lessons) and can attest to the many benefits and value of Pilates on horseback.  Barb has most recently been certified in the TRX Suspension System.
